Choosing a school comes with many questions. We have gathered answers to some of the most common questions families ask about Tessellations, gifted education, and the admissions process.

What does Tessellations look for in applicants?
We are excited to meet young people whose curiosity is alive: young people who ask thoughtful questions, make unexpected connections, become deeply absorbed in their interests, and engage wholeheartedly with the world around them.
There is no single Tessie profile. Our Admissions Team takes time to understand each young person in context, including their strengths, developmental readiness, learning experiences, and areas where they may need support. Through holistic review, we consider whether Tessellations can offer the right combination of belonging, meaningful challenge, and support for that young person to thrive.
How does the Early Years journey work at Tessie?
The Children’s Center, Transitional Kindergarten, and Kindergarten form a connected Early Years arc at Tessie. Families who are noticing signs of giftedness may begin talking with us before their child turns three, so we can explore together whether TCC may be a good fit.
Young people who join TCC are expected to continue into TK and then Kindergarten. Throughout these years, our educators observe each young person closely, communicate regularly with families, and consider their learning profile, development, readiness, strengths, and support needs through holistic review. Families must provide a cognitive assessment by October of the TK year.
Kindergarten brings a significant increase in the depth, complexity, and independence expected of young people. For this reason, current TK families receive priority for Kindergarten. Spaces for young people joining Tessie for the first time in Kindergarten are limited.
Do you work with educational consultants?
Yes. We are happy to work with educational consultants who are helping a family understand their school options or navigate the admissions process. With the family’s permission, consultants may contact our Admissions Team with questions about Tessellations, program fit, availability, timelines, or application requirements.
Our relationship with the family remains central to the process. We want to hear directly from parents and guardians, understand what they are noticing, and get to know the young person through our usual holistic review. Working with a consultant does not provide an admissions advantage or change how an application is considered.
Is a campus visit required?
In most circumstances, yes. Visiting campus gives families a chance to experience our learning environment, meet members of our community, and see how inquiry, creativity, challenge, and strong relationships come together at Tessie. It also gives us time to get to know one another and answer your questions.
We understand that distance, travel, or other circumstances can make an in-person visit difficult. If your family is unable to visit, please contact our Admissions Team to discuss possible alternatives.
Do you offer rolling admissions?
When space remains available, we may continue considering applications after the published admissions rounds. Please contact our Admissions Team for current availability.
Can we apply after the deadline?
Yes. Families may apply after a published deadline, although our ability to complete the process and offer admission will depend on timing and available space.
Can we apply for an immediate or midyear start?
Occasionally, an opening may be available in a particular program or grade. Please contact our Admissions Team to ask about current possibilities.
Does applying early improve our chances?
Every application receives the same thoughtful, holistic review. Applying earlier gives your family more time to complete the process and may mean that more spaces are still available, but it does not guarantee admission.
Is financial aid available?
Yes. Financial aid is available to families who demonstrate financial need. You can review the requirements and apply through Clarity.
