Upper Middle School Humanities Teacher
Full Time, $75,000 - $105,000 / year

Tessellations is a progressive, K-8 non-profit school for gifted learners based in Cupertino, CA. Our mission is to provide challenging experiential education that recognizes and nurtures the individual strengths of gifted learners, empowering them to confidently express who they are and pursue a meaningful life. Tessellations delivers a rich, immersive learning experience specifically designed for gifted learners, including one day every week at our Nature Campus, where they do everything from hiking and gardening, to science in the creek, to humanities under the trees (don’t worry if you don’t have outdoor experience – we have a dedicated team for the Nature Campus). At Tessellations, community is a core value, as it is the reason our small and mighty school was able to form and thrive despite the global pandemic. Our current staff of 40 is composed of dedicated individuals from diverse backgrounds and includes a nationally renowned giftedness expert.

Primary Responsibilities
Create and foster a safe and supportive learning environment where all students feel heard
With the support of administration, develop thematic curriculum and related content that integrates Science, English Language Arts, and Art
Use provided curriculum to inform planning of Math instruction
Implement lessons, activities, and instruction while adapting to the intellectual, physical, and social-emotional needs of students as they arise
Maintain organizational systems in physical and digital space
Regularly use and maintain documentation of multiple forms of assessment to gauge student learning and inform next steps in teaching
Work collaboratively with a co-teacher and other staff members to develop the program
Attend staff meetings and actively engage with professional development opportunities
Plan and help organize immersion events, fieldwork, guest speakers, and overnight trips
Prepare progress reports and report cards
Attend parent-teacher meetings as scheduled and as needed to support student learning
Requirements
Prior upper middle school humanities (or related) teaching experience
Passing a criminal background check upon hire
Proficiency with technology (GSuite in particular)
